The Department has got many scientific exchanges rose to the rank of National and International collaborations.
The formers are made up either in National Projects and Local Projects (financially supported by Ministero della Ricerca, CNR, University). In some cases the Amministrazione Provinciale di Siena and Regione Toscana has directly financed the research activity.
Of particular importance there are collaborations with Inter-Dipartiments and Inter-Universities such as Centro Interdipartimentale di Cristallografia at the University of Firenze; Centro Interuniversitario di ricerca sulle reazioni pericicliche e sintesi dei sistemi etero e carbociclici at the University of Milano; Consorzio Italo-Tedesco involving the University and technical firms involved in many different aspects of energetic activities; Centro NMR of the University of Siena; Centro Interdipartimentale di analisi e determinazioni strutturali (CIADS) of the University of Siena; Centro Interdipartimentale di Studi di Sistemi Complessi (CSC).
Many professors of the Department of Chemistry are deeply involved in scientific activity.
Some of them are part of editorial boards of journals such Ecological Modelling, Ecological Economics, Energy, Population and Environment, Ecological Questions, ECOS 2000, J. Inorganic Biochem, Inorg. Inorganic Biochem, Inorg. Chem, J. Chem, J. Am. Am. Chem. Chem. Soc., J. Soc. , J. Finally, the Department represents a Group Host for the Consortium HPC-Europe (Pan European Research Infrastructure for High Performance Computing). It can accept researchers funded from the HPC for supercalculation plans.
