The contribution of the Department to the didactic activity goes to the Faculties of Sciences and Pharmacy, although some teachers contribute also to the didactic activity of other Faculties (Engineering, Medicine).

The taught subjects cover the main areas of chemistry, both basic and applied, namely Physical, Inorganic, Organic, Environmental and Analytical Chemistry, supported by the respective laboratories.
From the didactic point of view, the chemical laboratories are divided into practical, instrumental and computational laboratories.

Recently an intense activity devoted to multidisciplinary Master, Modules and Schools of Specialization, organized by the University of Siena and the European Union in collaboration with Regions has been developed, in particular the Technical Module Professionalizzante "Energy Manager for the Conservation and the Rational Use of Energy".

Annually in the period June-July, is carried out the Summer School "Education Collaboration Innovation. Chemistry for Life and Environment" in cooperation with Emory University (Atlanta, Georgia USA). The program is dedicated to Emory and Unisi students of chemistry and is coordinated by two Emory faculties and an organizing committee from Unisi. The program is in English.
