The Department is responsible for the organization of the Ph. D. Course in Chemical Sciences.

The Ph.D. Course in Chemical Sciences is an inter-departmental course jointly managed by the Department of Chemistry and the Department TCDB. The Committee is constituted by 10 teachers, 5 for each Department.

The doctorate is open to graduates in different disciplines: Sciences and Pharmacy, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Agriculture, Economics, Economics and Banking, Architecture, Philosophy.

Purpose of the course is the formation of highly qualified researchers, in the fields C01A, C02X, C03X, C05X, C12X of scientific research, enabling them to perform their job independently in the laboratories of the University, Industry and public and private agencies, both Italian and foreign.

The Ph. D. course also aims to make students aware of the necessity of modulating the approaches at the level of analysis to which particular property refer.

The research topic is based on the acquisition of theoretical principles and methodologies allowing students to carry out the study of: complex systems (at molecular level), molecular structures, and their dynamics characterization, of environmental dynamics and of their organization. It has two addresses: Environmental Chemistry and Bio-molecular Chemistry. Chemical systems at molecular level and the biological-environmental macrosystems need, for their study and the understanding of their property (at different hierarchical levels) of different theoretical and experimental approaches.

During the Ph. D. course students attend various seminaries of international and national level. Several international collaborations are active. Ph. D. students can carry out part of their doctoral studies at the university involved in these collaborations.
